Chaska, Minnesota, is best known for its small-town feel and friendly atmosphere. The town was founded in 1852 and there is a wealth of history here. The name Chaska is derived from a Dakota word meaning firstborn. The city’s mission statement is to be the best small town in Minnesota. Even with that small-town charm, the community is only half an hour outside of Downtown Minneapolis. There are many historic homes here, including in the Italianate and Queen Anne architectural styles, as well as many more modern designed homes.
 
Chaska prides itself on having a strong community identity. The approximate 27,000 residents enjoy living here and report satisfaction with the community’s direction and high quality of life. Locals are also committed to maintaining its status as a small town at the edge of the Twin Cities. There is a lovely historic downtown on the banks of the Minnesota River. Nearby there are also pretty, rolling hills, forests, rivers, and creeks, giving it a beautiful surrounding landscape. It’s easy to get out and enjoy the great outdoors living in Chaska. There is also great golfing nearby, and annual events also make it a fun place to live.

A charming suburban lifestyle best characterizes Chaska. Residents enjoy an easy commute to the urban centers of Minneapolis and St. Paul. The community also feels like a refuge away from city life. Cuzzy’s Brick House is a popular place for meeting up with friends to enjoy good food, watch a big game, or just enjoy a few drinks. They are best known for their wood fire pizzas but also have a variety of sandwiches and salads, plus 20 beers on tap. 
 
Willy McCoy’s Restaurant is a local favorite bar and grill. Family-owned and operated, Red Bench Bakery is a popular spot with great fresh-baked bread, scrumptious pastries, coffee, and sandwiches. Schram Haus Brewery is a testament to the historic German immigrant community and brews terrific local beer with frequent fun events and live music.
 
Historic Downtown Chaska has plenty of great dining options as well as great shopping. There is a variety of unique local boutiques and gift shops as well as local supermarkets and larger chain stores in Chaska.
 

Things to Do

The Historic Downtown in Chaska hosts frequent events throughout the year from live music, to food trucks, to park runs. To learn Minnesota’s favorite sport, head to the Chaska Curling Center. For outdoor fun, Lions Park offers an off-leash dog park, and the Jonathan Association maintains a number of parks and trails alongside Lake Grace.
 
Golfers will like the Chaska Town Course and the redesigned Loop at Chaska, formerly the Chaska Par 30, set to reopen before the end of 2022. However, they will love the Hazeltine National Golf Club, which has a world-class and scenic course that has hosted the US Open, Ryder Cup, and both the men’s and women’s PGA Championship.
 
There are fun annual events hosted in Chaska, too. The Fire and Ice Festival offers fun for the whole family with live music, competitions, and great food. In the summertime, Chaska River City Days offers a weekend of family fun.
